Hi Everyone!

Happy Wednesday! Some exciting things to share today.

First off, a new look and feel. For me, this has been a long time coming. As time goes on, people change and naturally, so do blogs. For me, this blog is a labor of love, hard work and dedication. So, for a few years – the format of the site was pretty stagnant. Looking to switch things up, I worked with the amazing women (Chelcie and Anastasia) of Featherstone and Company to totally redesign my blog and give it a major facelift.

Seriously, these women are AMAZING. No joke. I’ve counted on them for not only the design, but for help on tech questions, formatting, and everything in between. I’m so excited that I had the opportunity to work with this company and want to know something that makes this even sweeter? They are from Ohio. Now if that’s not destiny, I don’t know what is. 🙂

And if we’re on a roll talking about change, well…I’m sharing something super near and dear to my heart as of late – health. I’ve been working at my current job for around a year and for the first time in my career, I didn’t have to worry about bringing breakfast, lunch OR dinner. First off, this is amazing and I’m so insanely grateful to be treated so well by my employer. Second, this led to a lot of temptation. I’ve always loved eating (obviously) so getting seconds for lunch or grabbing a cup too many peanut butter pretzels felt natural. The thing was – I wasn’t that hungry. I ate because it was in front of me.

So, after a year…I felt a little sluggish. A little heavier. And well, not so great. I’ve been a member at a lot of gyms, but nothing really stuck. So, eventually I tried ClassPass and my world changed. I took classes (a lot of classes) and figured out what I loved, what I didn’t, and what was out of my comfort zone.

Introducing Uforia. I always loved cycling, but I found my groove (quite literally) at Uforia’s Revolutions, a 45-minute spin class that combines badass music and amazing bikes. I go around twice a week and can’t get enough!

If cycling isn’t your bag, don’t fret – Uforia features two additional classes that offer a little something for everyone.

GRIT is high-intensity cardio that features weights, reps (a lot of ’em!) and stepping. It’s great for the person who wants to move, work every part of your body and build long and lean muscles.

The next is hip-hop and to be honest, this one was WAY out of my comfort zone. I don’t have a lot of rhythm, but if you’re willing to step out of your normal routine, this one is AWESOME. Made for every level, you get as full body workout all in an hour.

And you know what? I was a little hesitant to take these photos, but this is real guys. I actually worked out and took photos after. I may not look like the prettiest girl in the world, but I felt like a badass in the moment – blame the endorphins. Also, who looks amazing after working out? If you know the secret, let me know.

Happy Wednesday! Hope you’re having an amazing day so far! I started my day off with yoga and that’s basically the foundation for this post.

I never thought of myself as an anxious person. Ever. And if you know me, I’m pretty carefree.

A few months ago I started feeling really overwhelmed by things – work, exercise, blogging, everything.

So, instead of freaking out I started forcing myself to slow down and take a break from the daily grind. I made sleeping more of a priority and exercise an even bigger one.

I’m not super athletic, but I do love moving, sweating, and trying new things. Enter yoga! For the longest time, I felt really, really awful at yoga. I couldn’t turn off my brain and my balance well…sucked. This was super frustrating and often times, I was so frustrated that I wasn’t “any good” that I never came back.

A few months ago, I tried my first yoga class at Ritual Hot Yoga. It’s a block away from my office at Pinterest so there was really no excuse to go. Instantly, I fell in love. Ritual’s motto is that you “move and breathe to the beat of the music.” The instructors are super hands on, helpful, empowering, and encouraging. The flow is fast, the room is hot, and the words of affirmation plentiful – exactly what I love. This helps keep me in the moment and not bored.

I can’t tell you how helpful yoga has been for me. It’s eased some anxious feelings, made me more flexible, and gives me both internal and external strength.

Moving and breathing to the beat of the music is one thing, but what to wear to make my practice a bit easier is another. I love expressing my personality through my leggings so these watercolor Athleta leggings (similar here) are colorful and super creative.

These leggings are perfect from going to the studio to grabbing a cup of coffee, too. Throw on my extra comfortable Dr. Scholl’s slip on’s and I’m on my way to get caffeinated.

Find Your Ritual

Hi Everyone!

Happy Wednesday – how y’all feeling out there? I’ve talked pretty candidly about life and the stressors that come with it. From commuting to work and morning meetings to carving out the time to see friends and family – life can be pretty fast. Either you get swallowed up or fight like hell.

Luckily, I’m pretty stubborn and try to hold my own when life attempts to grab me by its sticky paws. My saving grace when I feel overwhelmed and consumed is by working out.

I’ve never been athletic. I actually quit almost every sport I played as a kid. I was awkward (still am 100%), pretty clumsy, and have no balance (body wise). This continued into my twenties. So, when I moved to San Francisco I was bombarded by workout options. I started to find myself confused on whether I should be doing HIIT, yoga, pilates or run.

I tried all of them and thought each individual workout brought something different. Besides yoga. And this killed me because I wanted to get my zen on so, so badly. As hard as I tried, I couldn’t relax, I wasn’t flexible, and I left more frustrated than I started.

This is until recently. Last year I had the opportunity to check out a class at Ritual Hot Yoga when it was located in Jackson Square. When I started at Pinterest, Ritual moved a block away. I think it was fate.

Soon after they opened the 6th street location, I’ve been hooked. Sometimes I even go twice a day (eeek!). Last Saturday I had the opportunity to go with a few fellow bloggers and share my obsession.

If you haven’t gone to Ritual, I promise you – you will feel 20,000 times better after going. The music is upbeat (think Disclosure and Flume), the studio is heated (not Bikrim, but heated), and the instructors find time to pay attention to everyone in the room – I’m not kidding. It’s impressive.

By far one of the best yoga classes (and workouts!) I’ve experienced in San Francisco. So, if you’re down to take a class  take a look at Ritual’s schedule and let me know! I’ll take you up on that offer and then some!


Friday Favorites

Hi Everyone!

Happy Friday! We made it, right? Since it’s my birthday weekend, I thought i’d throw out some of my favorite things as of late:

Dolores Park: The new side is now open! I can’t wait to wiggle my toes in that glorious, green grass!

Fog City: Happy hour is made better with Fog City‘s hamburger and fries. Seriously, the best i’ve ever had. If you want a little re-cap check it out.

Inspiring Women: I had the opportunity to hang with some of my favorite ladies on Wednesday at The Cheese School of San Francisco. It’s always so refreshing to hear about other women who are kicking ass and taking names. Oh, and the cheese there was outta this world.

Trips: I’m going on a little getaway for my birthday on Sunday! Sonoma, here I come! I can’t wait to stay at the El Dorado, nom at The Girl and the Fig, and drink copious amounts of wine.

Yoga: I recently found an amazing yoga class that mixes cardio, yoga, and weights. It’s called Sculpt at CorePower Yoga and i’m obsessed. The room is slightly heated, allowing your muscles to move a bit more freely and I have to say – it’s one hell of a workout.

Friends: Lately i’ve been feeling quite restless. Maybe it’s a quarter-life crisis, but luckily I have some stellar friends who’ve let me bitch, complain, talk, etc. To be honest, i’m nothing without these guys. So, for all those who are reading – thank you! ❤

So, as I mentioned earlier…Monday is my birthday! I’m so excited to be turning one year older – I feel like 25 was such a good year and it can only go up from here. However, one thing that would truly make my birthday even greater is some help from all of you.

On July 11th & 12th, I will be walking 39.3 miles for the Avon 39 The Walk to End Breast Cancer. I am more than half-way to my goal and would love your help. My mother had breast cancer several years ago and beat it. I’m so hopeful that many women (and men) are as lucky as my mother who beat cancer and are living a healthy, happy life.

What’s Your Ritual?

Being a part of ClassPass, I have the opportunity to try a ton of different classes and studios in the San Francisco area. Like i’ve mentioned before, i’ve gotten really into spin, pilates, and barre classes. So much cardio. But what was missing about workout routine included stretching, toning, and well…relaxing.

Luckily, I live in San Francisco and there’s no shortage of yoga classes. Now, i’ll admit something. I have a hard time turning “off.” Many of you who know me can say the same. Buuut, when the mood strikes, I desperately crave some “me” time. Whether it’s 5 minutes to grab coffee by myself, an all-day shopping extravaganza or a day of just doin’ me, I need time to recharge (much like the iPhone i’m always on – I swear, i’m trying to get better).

I’ve tried several yoga studios and I admire each and everyone who practices yoga. I love the idea of setting an intention not only for the next hour, but for the day. I love the flexibility that comes with yoga and most of all, I love the tranquility of yoga. But, it’s hard. At least for me. So when I find a studio i’m really comfortable with, I call it a mini-miracle.

A few weeks ago, I tried Ritual Yoga in downtown San Francisco. I walked from my place in Pac Heights to the Financial District sort of prepping myself for an hour of “zen.” I calmed my nerves by listening to Kendrick Lamar and Odesza (fitting, right?) and got to the 10:00 a.m. class a few minutes early.

I was greeted with a smile and hug by Brittany Blum, co-founder of Ritual who showed me the space they are inhabiting for the time being. I put my stuff away, was given a yoga mat and cloth and stepped inside a room that smelled of bergamot oil and was lit only by candles. Upon entering, I told myself to leave all my shit at the door and have a good time.

Brittany and her two other co-founders (Caitlin and Lindsey) have created an amazing mixture of intense, high-end, and soulful yoga that gives you an entire experience from beginning to end. Oh, and I worked up a sweat while I was it.

So, that being said…I HIGHLY recommend Ritual for the experienced yogi, the novice, and anyone who wants a serious sweat session.

Hey Everyone!

I mentioned this last week, but THIS Saturday i’m hosting an event at Athleta on Fillmore. I’m teaming up with the phenomenal Tricia Kirkwood of Sunshine Fitness, and Shikha Kaiwar of Shikhalamode to bring you guys a morning of food, fun, and pilates.

The event is called DetoxFIT and is specifically designed to be an hour class of Pilates, Yoga, and Barre exercises that help detox the body after a vigorous run or a week of indulgence.

After last Saturday where I had nothing but cheese products, i’d say I need it.

Annnnd, from yesterday’s feature y’all know i’ve been really getting into ClassPass and pilates. I have to say that these floral fade ankle tights and fuse tee are perfect for matt or reformer pilates and if I feel like getting even crazier, are great for a run around SF. The mesh calf part makes the legging breathable, less restrictive, and the pattern is so fun!

Fitness Feature – Burn San Francisco

You may have seen me write about it, but over the past few weeks i’ve been doing a lot of classes a la Class Pass. Now, if you don’t know about ClassPass, check it out – it totally has transformed the way I workout and the way I think about working out!

Most recently, I had the opportunity to check out a class (that’s available on ClassPass) called Burn San Francisco. I’m a big lover of pilates, but let me tell you…Burn is a bit different.

Their mantra and method emphasize constant movement using circuits to challenge and improve endurance, agility, balance, and strength, with appropriate focus on stressing proper form and method.

With their newest location in Hayes Valley, I checked it out and had the opportunity to speak with the owner, Lisa Corsello!

The new space is beautiful and airy. Inviting and not overwhelming, you’re greeted by a wonderful receptionist who welcomes you to the studio and asks if you have any injuries prior to your class. I snagged a bottle of water before the class (free of charge!) and was on my way to getting my butt kicked.

We spent an hour mixing up our workout between cardio, strength training, and stretching. Some of the moves were foreign to me, but luckily my instructor Sierra was awesome!

Lisa and I caught up after class and she told me about her journey of opening Burn and what’s to come. With the opening of the Hayes Valley location comes two others and loads of promise!

I highly encourage you to try Burn San Francisco if you’re in the area. After all, they have 4 locations (Hayes Valley, Mission, Inner Sunset, and Russian Hill) now!
